I have to admit that as I contemplate what anyone would want to know about me, I am always stumped. I can relate to Jonah when the sailors are asking him "What do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?"(Jonah 1:8) His reply in the next verse is a simple proclamation of what really matters. So to start with, I will tell you that I am a Christian, and I worship the God of heaven, who made the sea and the land. I would add that this is also the God who brought salvation to all who would follow Him through His Son Jesus Christ.
That said, I can relate to the words of Paul in 1 Thessalonians 2:8 as well, where he says "We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us." Through, what to me are the mysterious workings of the web; we have found a connection to each other. The entire world is now my neighbor, and so those who cross my path, even electronically, become dear to me! I hope that you also will share a bit with me about who you are by going to the CONTACT ME tab, and dropping me a line.
My family and I actually live on Victory Road, near a great little town in rural central Kansas. But as much as I love my scenic little road that leads to home, it is the victorious journey of faith in Christ as Lord and Saviour that I wish to share with you.
My love of Scripture, which soon led to a love of its Author, began when I was a teenager, astounded by the amazing things that God was saying to me through His written Word. I began leading Bible studies shortly after, and started writing my own about two decades ago. Frustrated, and even a bit heartbroken, with how boring many find Scripture to be, I wanted to find a way to convey the excitement that I find in the adventure of reading the Bible. There are new discoveries, new layers of meaning, new life changing encounters, at every turn of the page. I became more determined to make every effort to share the excitement and power of what God reveals in Scripture. I have modeled my studies after the educational, informative, and INTERESTING, little news magazine handouts that my children would bring home from school. People in other places started asking to receive them as well, and one thing led to another until this website was born!
For most of my 29 years (and counting!) of marriage, I have been a stay at home mom, taking care of my eight children. Four of our children arrived all at once by adoption, and four of our children arrived one at time by birth. I have been tremendously blessed, challenged, and most of all grown, by the experience of parenting. God has taught me much about who He is as my Father through my experiences as a mother, and His continual care for me and my brood has greatly expanded the reaches of my faith.
The combination of being the child of plant geneticists, and of my own degree in anthropology, lends to the tone of the Bible studies I write. I love looking at the archaeological evidence of Biblical happenings that confirm these are not just good stories that teach good behavior. This stuff is REAL! Real places, real people, and real events. I also love what science reveals to us about God, whether it be looking at the expanse of His universe, examining fMRI scans of the human brain in prayer, or contemplating the implications of quarks and dark energy. Romans 1:20 says, “For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” I think of this verse every time I witness the spectacular sunrise beyond my favorite gnarled old tree in front of our house. What amazing ways God shows Himself to us!
To add to the mix, I also love the creative process and the feeling of connection it gives me to our ultra-creative God. I share my artwork in these studies, because the process of making art helps me absorb the truths - know the person. It is a meditative sort of spiritual discipline for me I suppose. And I hope that it will be of benefit to some of you other visually oriented people as well!
I commit myself to pray daily for all who will encounter this site. I hope your own victorious journey will be blessed beyond compare!
Kayann
